Got up early for the train. Chenks made me a coffee and came with me on the tram and walk to the train station, recommended a place to buy a sandwich for the journey, and deposited me on the right platform, then headed off to make it back for trials.
I was extremely grateful to past me for paying a little extra and booking a first class, silent carriage. It was a very small car... I don't know why fewer people want a silent carriage?? For most of the journey I had it all to myself. It was about 4 hrs and passed pretty pleasantly. I watched the trial via Michael's Twitch stream, ocassionally slide-show-like.
Once in Prague, I dawdled my way to the hotel so I wasn't too early for check-in. It's a weird, long room with en entirely tiled floor that smells a bit like old people who used to smoke. It's a great location though, and nice enough.
I rested for a while on arrival but dragged myself out late afternoon for a walk. I went up into old town for a walk.. man Prague is beautiful. Just, amazing architecture, everywhere you look. Climb up to the top of Prasna brana - a 15th century city gate which had 3 floors and then also a roof-walk. Intesting gargoyle type decos, amazing views just as the sun was setting. Perfect timing.
I had punched into google the astrological clock and that was vaguely where I was heading but I got distracted by many things. Next was an exhibition of student work. Big old building on a sort of touristy, beautiful old street. Four floors of crumbling rooms. It looked like students were maybe offered their choice of room and they had to maybe write a proposal for their installation. Some crazy interesting stuff. Lots that was interactive, nothing was 'precious', but it still had an air about it of mystery. Faves - full bath, vaccum cleaner, 'wanna drugs?', strobe streamers, lonely/cammo canvases, crazy eye in the ceiling room...
Made it to the old town square where the clock is. Seriously beautiful! All the bells started ringing from all the different churches around the square - 6pm. Again, perfect timing.
It's a massive open square like other European squares. It look super pretty with fairy lights on the restaurants and fairytale-like buildings surrounding it, patterned cobblestones underfoot.
The astronomical clock was very beautiful.
Headed back through a route that took me through a big shopping centre so I bought some food things in there and ate back at my room. Watched Upgrade which was awful. Had a chat with Murray over video which was lovely.
