Had coffees and then caught the bus to the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes. Saw the beautiful murals - Rivera, Siquieros, Orozco, Camarena, Tamayi, Lozano, Montenegro. They also had a fantastic exhibition on the top floor of photography which covered history, culture, geography of Mexico. Amazing pics of volcanoes, protests, depictions of what Mexico City looked like at its Aztec peak. The building itself was also incredible - art deco fabulousness. We had lunch nearby. I had a stuffed ancho chile - slow cooked pork, peanuts, raisins, amazing sauce. It was so good. Fresh lemonade. Went to the marketplace but it was a bit tacky - all the things looked mass-produced and souvenir-like. Went to the Mexico City library, built in an old tobacco factory. Cool sculpture inspired by tobacco leaves, nice building, aromatic garden, writing room. Met up with Caitlyn and had a beer lime juice drink - I forget what it's called and some tacos... zucchini flower and oaxaca cheese. Yum. Walked ba...
Went out to UNAM - sort of saw the big famous murals from the bus window but it's a massive campus and the part that we were going to was not that part. We had a little snack while we waited for Marie-Carmen and Alan. I had aroz con leche which was nice. Interesting campus with brutalist concrete buildings and lots of vulcanic rock in the gardens and grounds. The orchestra/band was amazing. So much fun. Huge venue, big responsive crowd, singing, clapping, dancing along. The orchestra even danced and was very animated. It was a lot of fun. I bought a CD. They were treated like rock stars. We caught an uber to a large bookshop to have some lunch - soup, salad, limonada. Bought some cheese and a baguette on the way back ($40!!!). Came home and had some rum, chippies etc. 9,996 steps 6.72 km
Shopping day - started by buying Murray a hat. Went to Koenji where there are lots of second hand shops. Violet bought some everyday sort of clothes. We couldn't convince her to buy the beautiful red leather cap, even though it looked absolutely amazing on her. Murray didn't end up buying the black trench coat. I didn't buy the red boots with cats on them - they were so tiny. I did buy a nice red beret. We went to Asagaya and had dinner at Alex's place. Her husband is lovely, her house gorgeous. We had sushi delivered - big round platters. I even at the natto one - couldn't really taste the natto much It was quite nice in sushi - not like on its own. Alex showed us round all the cute this bars/streets back to the train station from home. Slept so well in this bed, dark room, comfiness. 20,351 steps 13.68 km
